The utter nonsense surrounding the revelation of Spokane NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal’s racial identity is as insulting and repulsively ignorant as C. Thomas Howell’s portrayal of a black student accepted to Harvard in the 1986 movie Soul Man.
The character Mark Watson ranks among the most racist movie characters of all time according to Curtis Bunn on a post found at http://www.atlantablackstar.com. I vociferously voice my support of this statement.
A spoiled, punk-ass white boy needs financing for Harvard after his father cuts him off-He wants him to become his own man.”Becoming his own man”- Watson decides to pose in blackface to accept a scholarship reserved for a deserving black student of lesser means. Racism is abundantly affirmed and exacerbated throughout this waste of cinema that mocks the reason, promise, and potential of affirmative action.
Watson is able to somehow transform himself into a hero for “the cause”…I guess a temporary dalliance within the folds of the black experience, as well as black pussy…while looking like the maniacal manifestation of a racial black male stereotype gave this character “legitimacy.” My problem…Watson could always escape this self-inflicted “reality.”
Rachel Dolezal, while perhaps legitimate in her intent, is ultimately nothing more than another unnecessary caricature of “blackness.” Watson could have been an Ivy League student based on his own merit…his own brain power…his own heart. White didn’t need to be black in either case.
Dolezal, could have helped further the cause of the (N)ational (A)ssociation of (A)ssholes pretending to be concerned for (C)ertain (P)eople without resorting to pretending to be something she is NOT. She can take pictures with black children, and black men, for an eternity trying to use their “blackness” to affirm her wish to be seen as not white. Her “white” is black…can black ever ACTUALLY ever be white?
Despite unrelenting attempts of confused Oreo’s like Kevin Jackson, Larry Elder, and Allen West…I don’t think so. Unlike Watson and Dolezal…they will NEVER be able to escape the skin they are ACTUALLY in.~Daryl~
