For a while now, Prince has been teasing the release of a new album with his band 3rdEyeGirl, dubbed PLECTRUMELECTRUM. Turns out, however, that he has a second album in the works, described the Star Tribune as a “Prince album.” Over the weekend, Prince previewed this as-yet-untitled effort for the Tribune and other associates during a late-night session at his Paisley Park estate.
According to the Tribune, songs include “The Gold Standard”, a “percolating electro-funk update of classic Prince”; a remix of “Funk ‘n’ Roll”, a song he originally premiered with 3rdEyeGirl last year; and an untitled collaboration with Rita Ora which features rapping. Another track, “This Could Be Us”, was inspired by a meme of him riding on a motorcycle, taken from his film Purple Rain.
In between songs, Prince discussed the difficulties of getting in touch with executives at Warner Music Group, even though he just signed a record contract with them…
