It felt good to drain some jumpers earlier today. Even though I know my full court days have probably passed-I was more than pleased after a horrific start. I will not divulge the amount of time since I even last took a shot at a rim, but if there is one thing I still have=my shot. The first 20 minutes were terrible, and really different, because for the first time in my life=I felt awkward playing basketball. I realize being 3 months shy of 50 made me think about getting hurt more than I did when I was 25…when getting hurt wasn’t even on my mind.Worrying about getting hurt is the first thing that gets you hurt.
The last 50+ minutes=The stroke more than returned. For less than an hour, I felt like the OSU student, that ran full/half court at Larkins Hall, and Jesse Owens North/West for five hours at a time playing against names like Carter Scott and Mike Tomczak. I was hitting shots(A couple left-handed) from all angles and my legs and feet temporarily felt like they were on air. I’ll probably wake up tomorrow with an overall body stiffness that will rival rigor mortis, but for a very brief moment, I was deadly from the outside again. My wind may be a joke, but my stroke never will be.~Daryl
