The Republican Party, as it stands today, is nothing more than a conflicted cacophony of the harmonious promise it once held. Originally formed by those who opposed the insidious institution of slavery, the song of equality that this party once sang is nothing more than a faded hit that fell off the chart of humanity long ago.
It is important to realize, especially during Black History Month, the roles of Black people in BOTH political parties throughout history. Much of the racial animosity, that has held this nation in its virulent grip was actually created and eventually perpetrated by The Democratic Party. Many of these inbred lunatics stopped at nothing to ensure the survival of slavery. Whether it was the threat of seceding from The Union, or ignoring The Compromise of 1877 after slavery, Southern White Democrats are the architects of much of the modern day mantra of racism and obstructionism that has been adopted by today’s Republican Party. Idiots like Allen West can’t hold a candle to early African-American Congressman Sen. Hiram Revels.
Revels was the first Black man to be appointed to the United States Congress. Congress was, at one time, half Black-a fact that drove southern racists who were predominantly Democrats insane. These imperious bastards tried everything to regain the power to segregate their hate via voter suppression and other Jim Crow laws. They wanted to restrict Black people from the right to earn a living and their efforts were often led by violence and appalling ignorance-Sounds like today’s GOP? Revels and other brave African-Americans who were “Republican” fought for justice for ALL. Today, impostors for equality like the noodle back Allen West, fight for the rights of a small, select few.
“Yes We Can” realize that President Barack Hussein Obama is more of a manifestation of the hopes and dreams of Hiram Revels rather than the likes of the old Democratic Party which has morphed into today’s GOP. Yes, he owes a debt that can never be re-paid to those who marched on Selma, and Birmingham. Yes, today, he has received unanimous support from many African-Americans, who blindly call themselves Democrats without realizing the sordid past of their preferred party. More importantly, the brilliance of Barack Obama is the ultimate realization of a time-that todays GOP would soon have us forget-When Black Republican’s were not only relevant, they were also real. ~Daryl
